Every year someone says that the next year will be the “year of Linux on the desktop”.
some things are getting better every year.
hardware support.
UI is getting better.
third party programs.
the problem is standards, we have too many of them.
what files live where, what package manager system, which X manager.
if you get 50 geeks in a room and ask what distro you should try, you should expect 20 answers.
if we want to see Linux on the desktop we need to have one distro, which of coarse goes against the whole Linux idea.
the problem is that new comers don’t have a clue where to start and the in fighting of the community is not helping.
